Qatar has condemned a reported Iranian strike on Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, describing it as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and international law, while urging all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue to prevent further escalation across the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Friday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the reported attack represented a “flagrant violation” of the sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The ministry said such actions undermine regional stability and called for respect for the territorial integrity and independence of all states in accordance with international law.
Qatar described the reported strike as unjustified and warned that continued military escalation risks further destabilizing an already volatile region. It stressed that disputes should be resolved through diplomacy rather than military action, emphasizing that dialogue remains the only sustainable path toward preserving regional and international peace and security.
The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government, expressing support for measures taken by authorities in Baghdad and Erbil to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of civilians.
The condemnation comes as tensions across the Middle East remain elevated following weeks of military exchanges involving Iran, the United States and several regional actors. The deteriorating security environment has heightened international concern over the possibility of a broader regional conflict with consequences for civilian populations, energy markets and international trade.
Iraqi authorities have not publicly released detailed information about the reported strike, while independent verification of the incident remains limited. Iran had not immediately commented on Qatar’s statement.
Qatar has consistently advocated political dialogue and diplomatic engagement in response to regional crises. The Gulf state has frequently acted as a mediator in conflicts across the Middle East and has maintained that negotiations, rather than military confrontation, offer the most effective means of resolving disputes.
