Iranian authorities have executed Salman Kakeh-Khani, a prisoner from Saqqez convicted of drug-related charges, in Tabriz Central Prison.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Kakeh-Khani was transferred to solitary confinement on 13 July in preparation for his execution, and was executed at dawn the following day.
Kakeh-Khani, from the village of Qaplan Tu in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, was arrested several years ago in East Azerbaijan Province and sentenced to death by an Islamic Revolutionary Court.
In mid-May 2023, while Kakeh-Khani was in prison, his wife, Hajar Panahi, and their child, Hero Kakeh-Khani, were electrocuted in an accident involving a domestic car-washing machine.
